Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Substantial ATC System Failure

A systems problem at the airport's air traffic control meant all flights could enter or leave the hub.

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were stopped because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Officials linked the full ground stop to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
